BEGINNER CLASSES for ADULTS & CHILDREN
Children / Parent Beginner classes start September 11, 2010 (details below)
Adult / Student / Teenager Beginner classes start September 11, 2010 (details below)
The Halifax ISKF runs two levels of classes year round:
- A class for adults, students, and teenagers 13 years and older
- A class for children between 7-12 and their parents. Also called the Children/Parents class. Children may attend this class on their own or be accompanied by their parents as a part of the family program.
We hold beginner sessions twice a year in September and January for both of these classes.
Each beginner session runs for 4 months until new members are ready to test for their first belt level. Once they have successfully passed they are permitted to join in with the main classes of the dojo.
The first two classes are FREE without obligations to continue. All classes are located at the Fitness Centre, King’s College Gym Building, Coburg Road, Halifax.

We accept children 7 to 12 yrs as well as their parents or relatives to train along side them. Our experience is that the parents will enjoy engaging in a physical activity with their children instead of watching from the “side line” as in other sports. The same fundamentals are taught as in the adult class but we also engage the kids in fun activities based on karate principles. We emphasize the development of good character and respect for others while improving flexibility and body strength. Our club practices no contact karate.
Here is what a few of our members say:
"We have been participating in the parent-youth class for over 2 years now. It is a wonderful opportunity for my son and I to learn together. We have both significantly improved our fitness levels and through this have become 'addicted' to our karate classes. It doesn't matter where you are starting from, only that you give your best effort each class.
The instruction we receive is fantastic. The members of the club are enthusiastic and mindful of all of the various ages and levels of ability, making karate practice safe and fun for all involved. Karate teaches us about commitment, dedication and most importantly, respect for ourselves and others. It is particularly helpful in learning to focus our minds on the task at hand which can then extend far beyond the dojo. We cannot say enough positive things about the experiences we have had with the club."
- Jeff & Noah Dempster
"I started karate over three years ago, as part of the parent/child class. This class mixes fun, discipline, pure karate techniques, and self-defence. No matter your level of sport or fitness, you can have fun with your child, and improve your fitness as well. I highly recommend this class."
